Have you ever wondered how to really get your fashion / blogging / styling / influencing business started and monetizing your efforts? Do you have little questions you have been nervous to ask, can I buy clothes and write that off on tax if I am a stylist, or legally do I need to get models to sign waiver forms, or even how do I protect my IP – and do you want to hear from some industry greats who have time and time again been successful?

Our 2017 B.F.M Workshop is for you! (Blogging, Fashion, Media)

In 2016 this sell out event let industry established and new labels and bloggers experience raw information from some of the best. This year we are taking it one step further and not only do you get an amazing Q&A, but we are complementing this with the real business skills to help you get started.

We will be running sessions on Media and PR – hearing from top magazine editor Assia Benmedjdoub from industry fashion business magazine Ragtrader and local press Courier Mail as well as Fleur from PR agency The Red Republic, to really get to the bottom of how to get featured in the media and how to make this work for you.

Fashion Legal – hear from the most approachable women in the legal industry from Leora Rose Law about your role as a blogger, fashion designer, influencer or photographer – even hair and make up, about your basic legal needs in the industry to make sure you are covered. There will be time to ask those questions you are unsure of!

How to Style to Success – Brisbane wouldn’t have the fashion scene it does today without Liz Golding, who amongst other things has had successful careers in modeling, a styling for print and events, a fashion editor and a successful business woman (not to mention also being a mum which we also love). Liz was one of the main driving forces for the success of the styling at Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival for the 10 years of the event and has worked in print media with her eye for style for the past decade. Liz holds the best knowledge suited right now for our Brisbane industry, Liz will chat through candidly her styling and business experience, right through to her current role directing QLD’s only photographers and creatives agency – get ready to take notes!

Building success on correct accounting and money business skills, hear from skilled accountants from EY  as well as Commonwealth Bank some of those tips around what you can and can’t claim for tax in your fashion business – this is bite sized session with great Money Matters information specifically for you. This session makes sure you are planning your money and your success as much as you are planning your Instagram feed.

Thanks to Telstra we are excited to present a segment on using technology in your fashion business and the latest tools and apps to help you achieve more with your time.

In our last “business” series segment we hear from Australia Post with Brisbane’s savviest fashion professional Sarah Timmerman from Beginning Boutique and Michelle Levings from Black Milk Clothing – talking business skills and strategy around processes and formulas to take your business to the next level.

As an extremely special addition to the workshop come and hear from the Deputy Chair of the Australian Fashion Chamber as well as Editor from Harpers Bazaar Australia Kellie Hush.  We will chat through about young designers in the AFC, opportunities abroad and steps to success entering in the market.  Get ready for some great insights.

Lastly hear from GUEST SPEAKER Johnny Schembri

Australian Designer Johnny Schembri founded his contemporary womenswear label BY JOHNNY in 2009. Johnny graduated from St George TAFE with a Diploma in Fashion Design in 2006. With an eye for great detail Johnny’s trajectory was clear from the beginning from selling his designs at the local Fringe Bar markets to now being stocked nationally and being worn by international celebrities, his label was born with his business partner and sister Renee.

The Label is inspired by design concepts from past and present, reworking traditional silhouettes and creating collections for the individual who appreciates effortless style with a unique and modern edge.

Having already acquired an impressive following each season, BY JOHNNY evolves and blends bold aesthetics, delicate body contouring and digital printing. This mix of elements ensures the BY JOHNNY collections have a vital intensity; bold and brave.
